Cooler, but still pretty mild weather for Jan.
Late start to the day. Ran from Park Slope to the west side in Manhattan using the Brooklyn bridge, and then to 3rd Ave. and then onto the Manhattan bridge to get back to Brooklyn.
My roughly planned route was to run from my 'hood to the west side via Carroll St., Court St., and the Brooklyn bridge; and then cross over to 3rd Ave. onto Manhattan bridge onto Flatbush and then back home. I somehow never figured how to get to Flatbush when I actually got out of the bridge. (Now I know.)
The run was pretty okay. At the end of mile 8 I suddenly needed to use the shitter. At this time I had just gotten off the west side and onto W 26th, so I wasn't sure what to do. Then I realized the High Line has a bathroom, so that's where I went. I emerged relieved (no pun). When I got to 3rd Ave I started running on the street instead of the sidewalk: too many people, and really, those cars don't deserve our streets.
The last three miles were painful.
I'm beginning to feel like I'm not doing something right apropos pre-run nutrition. Today I had two slices of whole wheat toast with peanut butter and marmalade, and a small orange -- a little over an hour before I went out to run. I was consistently hungry after mile 8 (I consumed two gels through the course of the run.) What do you do?
