    good Rabbit Run 10K 6.07 mi 00:47 07:44 pace

Only my third run since the marathon, and the second race. Definitely not the recommended way to recover, but this is the third race in the SMAC series and I hadn't run one yet, so I pretty mu... read more

That looks like a very tough course. I'd rather get the climbing out of the way at the beginning. I love seeing you do these with your son - what a great way to share time and experiences together. So, what race is next weekend?

Ha, actually there is another race in the series but we have to be near Boston for a soccer tournament. So no races for 3 more weeks and only 3-4 races all summer other than the Tuesday night 5Ks. Good thing, too, because after my fall marathon I went on a racing bender and did 11 in 10 weeks, which caused a couple months of misery to follow.

Slow and easy ride with my wife at lunch time. She said there were too many hills, but she did fine. Rabbit Run 10K in New Salem tomorrow with my son.

Sounds like the recovery is going well so far. The fatigue is to be expected but it's great that you're not feeling sore or injured.

Thanks for sharing. The good news is you qualified. That's something that illudes many a runner. I think your fate will be decided by the registration phases: first to get in are those with a 20+ min cushion, then 10+ minute cushion, then the rest. You'll need to watch the numbers thru phase I and then phase II even closer and hope it doesn't close there. In the brief history of this process, it hasn't filled with only speedsters so I like your chances provided you are on the computer reg day.

I am curious to know how many of those 5,600 odd non-finishers were charity runners? I would think the % is high. Intellectually I understand the need for charity runners, but emotionally I struggle with it because they don't have to qualify like everyone else. That said, and unfortunately for some 2014 hopefuls, those who couldn't finish do deserve a chance.

@Steve, I would guess that most non-finishers were not qualifiers since it was over 4 hours. I agree that they did the right thing, though I think any qualifier who is excluded as a result has a right to be upset.

Sooo ... your first post-marathon run was a half-marathon a week later?? Haha - that's an interesting recovery tactic! I know your legs must be tired now. Rest up this week!

@Steve, my running club gets 10 bibs a year and I've never asked for one so I'd probably have a good chance, plus I have a connection at a major sponsor that has offered me a bib in the past. Would be good to hook up, for sure.

If you can run that course well in 70+ weather, you can probably run anything.

@Jeremy, true. But I'd rather run VCM in bad weather any day. Much better course, last 5 miles are on a shaded, flat bike path by the lake vs a sunny highway with a 2 mile climb to finish. I'll decide on Friday and I may do what you suggest, though I'd probably run sub-8:00 for as long as I can do it and then either drop out of jog to the finish if I get in trouble and save it for a better day.
