Piet- any thoughts on an ultra? Now that I have one Ragnar under my belt I would like to explore the idea of completing it with just 6 people.

You don't have to sell your kids, just get "SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED" to think it's in her best interests to let you go. I'm going to bribe my wife by finding a nice place to stay in Cape Cod, and bring her along.

THAT is cool. As runners, we appreciate how amazing it is what the elite distance runners do. But this puts in a perspective you can relate to. Imagine that you can't beat a marathoner even for 20 yards! Whoa!

I have that 50k 5 man relay on Saturday with some DMers. I don't want to overdo it. I don't know how some of you people run on this infernal thing and enjoy it.

  8. #dailymission Often, life gets in the way of all the running I would rather be doing. 12 hour work days, business trips, 4 kids, 2 chihuahuas, etc, etc.

  9. #dailymission I had a terrible, life-threatening bike crash (which gave me this super-cool chick-magnet scar on my face) when I was 16, and never really got back into it at the same level I was at ... read more

Well "the chicks dig scars" theory must work since you've been married for quite a few years. And to think if you weren't in a bike accident, you might not be a barefooter.

Having a huge facial gash in high school is horrible. High school girls don't dig scars like that. I kept repeating that it was a chick-magnet-facial scar enough times until I believed it.

Wow that is scary. :( I have a scar on my eyebrow but it's not from a crash, it's from chicken pox when I was young. Not nearly as mysterious. Hooray for running!

It was at 38°F when I started, and it never really felt warmer than that all day. There was a cold wind and an overcast preventing it from ever getting warm. It got warm around 3PM after I was all done running. FIgures.

I get my VFF's from REI, and because I am an REI member anytime I have a 'problem' I can take them in and exchange them for a new pair! Even if I bought them 6 months ago.

I would feel really bad about returning VFFs that suffered damage from simple mileage. The rest of the shoe handle the load of running quite well. The nice thing about the VFFs is that I don't have to worry about the foam starting to give out after so many miles. :) With enough applications of shoe goo, I could use them forever.
