MMA! We did very practical scenarios: what to do when punched or grabbed in various ways from behind.
1. Punched in the back of the head from behind: realistically, you're in trouble. But, if you can follow the punch by shooting your head down in the direction it's been punched while sticking your butt out, you'll deaden some of the blow. IMmediately twist to the side to get in a good fighting position for any followups.
2. Grabbed from behind, his arms wrapped under yours (your arms are free): if he tries to pick you up to throw you, hook a leg around his so he can't slam you down (or you at least take him with you). When your feet are on the ground, step to the side, shoot your butt out and into him to make some space, bend down, grab his leg between yours, and stand up with it: he'll immediately fall to the ground.
3. Grabbed from behind, his arms wrap over yours (arms pinned): simultaneously step to the side, shoot your butt back, and drive your arms up to break his grip. Twist around and start other techniques. Or, same as in 2), you can bend down, pick up his foot, and BAM. He's down.
4. Taken down from behind (i.e. he grabs your ankles and drives his shoulder into your legs, or grabs one shin, hooks his leg in between your legs and around the other shin, then pushes): fall well by slapping the ground with your forearms. Then immediately twist around and keep your feet up to protect yourself and keep him away from you. If he's on top of you when you fall, twist around and immediately get him in your guard.
