Drove up to western Sonoma County on Friday night for Dolce Vita training camp, staying at this remote but gorgeous place (http://www.vrbo.com/241448).

Rainy day, with some clear moments, but generally wet. Wore my commuting rain jacket and was glad to have it.

Rolled out for the day at 9am on Saturday as a group of 40+. Rode with the lead group, which waited for everyone to re-group at various points until just before we reached Route 1. After a break at a bakery, everyone restarted. I was part of the group doing the long ride, to Point Arena. Six of us, then joined by two more guys who worked hard to pace back up. The ride along Route 1 was mostly rollers, which felt great in a group. Led by Bill, a Cat 1 rider visiting from Kansas City, who did more than his share of pulling and also monitored individuals in the group to make sure we didn't lose anyone.

I felt strong and climbed well. Met my match on the hills with Jonathan (last name?) as we did the 1200ft of climbing up Skaggs from Route 1 over 4+ miles. Together we just pushed and pushed, and he got to the top just before me.

After the steep 1.5 miles back down to the bridge at Annapolis, Scott from Fusion decided to attack, and the last 8 miles were lots of back-and-forth, with most every rise being a new finish line. I competed strongly for most of this, but when Bill and the other remaining riders came through my pull one time with maybe 3 miles to go, I didn't commit immediately, lost their wheels, and ended up chasing 300m down the rest of the way. Mistake! Didn't realize just how close to home we were, and should have thrown in just a bit more then and hung on for a bit.

Great long, hard ride. Was glad to be able to drive back up to the house, unlike the others. Felt guilty about it, but also didn't need the extra kick in the pants.
