Anyone who knows me knows I've got issues... Only now I've collected an assortment of physical issues that, darn it - are not going away. Left ankle. Right sciatica (?) and even my left shoulder joined the party. I got some advice today too: don't run until I get this stuff checked out. I have an appointment a week from today with an orthopedic doc. Until then, cross training. Gonna try pool running in place of running miles, but for tonight I'm doing some homework. Welcome to week 4 of marathon training. :-/

I'm so sorry to hear about the physical stuff that is happening...I am happy to hear that you're going to take care of yourself before running again. I don't want to see you injured and out of the game for months. Good luck with your ortho appointment!

Ugh--that sucks hard. Good decision to hold off running for now--and since it's still early in training, you should be okay for the long haul. I hope it's nothing serious.

Feel better Pam! Definitely safer to cross train until you seen the doctor. Hope it's all just some minor stuff that goes away quickly...

Before you do anything too radical with a doctor, check out http://www.amazon.com/Healing-Back-Pain-Mind-Body-Connection/dp/0446392308. Great book, great author. Don't let the title fool you; His mind-body research is whole body, not just back. But using what i learned from that book, i was able to eliminate several nagging body issues, including a pain in the ball of my foot, some RSI wrist issues, and a left-side sciatica type pain. Worth a look, right? :)

Capital UGH. It's always something with us runners.

Hopefully the rest from running will heal everything. Hope it's a quick one and at least you can swim.

Well, this all sucks. Sorry to hear about the problems. I'd say most of this started in about April and has been building and has been building while you ignored the symptoms. I know how you feel. Been there done that. Get some rest and let some of it heal. We can usually deal with 1 or 2 things, but when it starts piling up it's hard to block out all the discomfort. I wish you a speedy recovery to you can kick MCM in the tail.

Sorry to hear about the health issues. You train hard! I agree that pool running is excellent crosstraining for running (why else would anyone endure anything so dull?) I think the trick is to buy a good belt (one made esp. for women that fits you well; I use an Aquajogger) and to do interval training in the water. I have read that injured runners can maintain running fitness for several months with this rehab. My dad liked the book Ric M. mentioned above for back pain. Good luck!

Wow guys, it really means a lot to me to have this type of support! Ric, I'm checking that link right after this - I always appreciate a good source of information to deal with or prevent injury. Les, you know time flies and I'm afraid if I go back in my logs, I'll find you are right and I've been ignoring things hoping they'd go away or maybe covering them up with painkillers and then forgetting this has been ongoing. So of course now I'm going to do that.

Beth, I need to look for that belt - until I watched a few YouTube videos earlier, I didn't know about them and wasn't sure how to do pool running, but they all use the belts, so it looks like I need that if I'm going to be successful. I was encouraged by those stats too on maintaining fitness.

Hang in there, Pam. I'm in the same boat, a lot of nagging things, but my hard-headiness prevents me from seeing a doc. Maybe on October 29th...

Oh no, that stinks. I am so sorry to hear about the nagging issues. I am sending all kinds of good vibes your way...hopefully everything will fall into line and this is just an exercise in patience and adherence. Cross training sounds like a great plan. Stay in the pool....no better way to keep those muscles strong.

I feel partly responsible for some of your boo-boo's! (falling near me when I run!) You are doing the right thing. All that cross training will pay off and you'll come back stronger!!!

Well that really sucks. Good job listening to your body and not trying to run through it, potentially making it worse. Good luck! In 87 days you probably won't even remember this small setback.
