This started just before 8pm Saturday night and lasted through this morning by 5am - I paced Tammie K. while she worked to complete as many laps of the 8.46 mile loop around the Schuylkill River as she could within a 24-hour period (10am Saturday - 10 am Sunday). Well, she did an ultra-amazing job of running over 59 miles as a "Lone Ranger". Participants aren't allowed a pacer until they finish 4 loops. She helped open my eyes to a whole new running world and showed me what really goes into doing an ultra. Needless to say, my expectations were slightly off from the reality and I learned a lot. One of the most important lessons which can apply to other runs is in adapting your strategy to the prevailing conditions to help you keep going. I was just one of a team of pacers to run with her and rode down with Denise M. where we got to witness friends work toward their goals. Congratulations to Tammie, Todd A P., Rambling Runner, Colleen F., and Stephen D. on their accomplishments! Mileage for these ultra marathoners ranges from 50+ to 93 miles!!! They can count on seeing me at next year's Lone Ranger!!!
