  1. RUN
alright Almond Road 3.51 mi 00:28 08:01 pace

It's sunny, cold, and windy. So I over-dressed, and did not regret it one bit!

  2. RUN
good Gages Lake 6.02 mi 00:54 09:02 pace

Mostly sunny, but cold. Seem to have a bit of a cold, but felt rested after taking yesterday off.

Nice job, Stephen. Always nice to feel fresh for a run

  3. RUN
tired Almond Marsh Four 4.11 mi 00:37 08:55 pace

Sometimes the shortest runs are the hardest. Tired after last week.

  4. RUN
good Heather Ridge 10.01 mi 01:30 08:58 pace

There was a brief and very muddy detour. Got the Vibrams soaking in Shout gel now.

Way to work the VFF's, Steve.

Forgot to note, for the record, it was sunny (well, sun-setting) and calm 40 degrees so I ran in a long-sleeve shirt and shorts. It was a bit chilly at first, but I wasn't overheated like my last few runs. Returned home in twilight.

  5. When does the Superbowl start? That was the best time to go running last year, roads were deserted.

  6. RUN
good Rollins Short Loop 5.79 mi 00:50 08:38 pace

Some stretches were like running on a wet sponge soaked with ice water. Muddy. Ice. Water.

  7. RUN
alright Gages Lake 6.02 mi 00:55 09:11 pace

Was hard getting out the door on a cold grey Chicago day after running in the 70 degree sunshine in Austin yesterday morning.

  8. RUN
good Birdsong, then church bells 5.56 mi 00:43 07:39 pace

Was going to take it easy, but ending up running "quickly" at sunrise around the west loop of Lady Bird Lake. Lots of smells and songs in the air this morning.

  9. walk
good Long Dog Walk 3.28 mi 01:10 21:20 pace

Moonlit walk with the dog. Snow is almost completely gone. It's 43 at night!

  10. RUN
good Ravinia Park Loop 4.61 mi 00:39 08:28 pace

Sunny and almost 50. But the puddles are icy cold. Brrr!

  11. RUN
good Rollins Savanna Six 6.15 mi 00:54 08:46 pace

Quick run over the bright snow at the local forest preserve. It was sunny, below freezing, and windy, but not as brutal as yesterday.

    • Stephen R.

Yesterday the wind was blasting 20 gusting 30, and I wasn't going to run in that no matter how brightly the sun was shining.

Yeah, that wind sounds horrible. I'm the same way about that. Nice run today

  12. RUN
good Almond Marsh Four 3.82 mi 00:32 08:20 pace

Early run in the low sun. Not quite the four I hoped for, but over 30 minutes, which was good. The house finches are singing their Spring song, very cheerful.

    • Stephen R.

My GPS and the dailymile mapping tool agree on the exact distance : 3.82 miles. THAT NEVER HAPPENS.

You should've run around the block a couple of times to get that 4. Kidding. Nice run!

  14. RUN
    great Big G Six 5 mi 00:43 08:35 pace

So a minor "snow detour" turns my standard four-something into a straight-up five miles. Exactly!

  15. Yeah, so word on the street is the Shamrock Shuffle had so many people qualify for the A corral they grabbed the top 1000 or so and bumped everyone else. Too bad. I'm done with that race, they keep... read more

  16. RUN
    good b, d, p, or q? 6! 6.44 mi 01:00 09:15 pace

A snowy detour changed my Gages Lake loop into a lopsided shape. I wondered, what letter would this resemble? Then, I saw the milage. It was a six, clearly.

  17. THE SUN IS SHINING! We had a snowstorm last Friday, then fog, then thunderstorms and rain over the weekend washed most of the snow away. Hurray! It's almost "warm" outside, too (over 32 d... read more

Nothin' like Chicago, Steve. Snow, Rain, Pestilence, 24-Hours Stranded on LSD, and Sunshine. Crazy stuff. :o)

  18. RUN
alright Ravinia Park Loop 4.71 mi 00:43 09:11 pace

Snow has melted from sidewalks. But running into the cold, damp wind was brutal.

  19. Might not run the Shamrock Shuffle in Chicago this year. That Sunday is Spring Break for my family, so we'll probably head someplace warmer. Also, they changed the start corral assignments, so a fe... read more

I'm tempted to train for it anyway, it's my "speed work" for the year.

I just checked the shamrock website to make sure that I was still in Corral A. You had me nervous!

My chip time was 34:56 so I thought I should be in A. Maybe I'll write them. (I wasn't happy with that time, since my GPS said I ran it in less time.)

  20. RUN
tired Heather Ridge Snow Route 11.06 mi 01:45 09:29 pace

Sunday is Long Run Day! Lots of gutter running, the sidewalks are all snowed over still.
