Ran the Frosty 5K with Mel J., Richie A. and Bobby. Guess what? I won my age group! Which is surprising considering I didn't have the best race and have been faster in tons of other situations. Not to mention this was my first race since last year's painful bout with plantar fasciitis. The suddenly cold temps freaked me out a little and I wound up overdressing. Every time I wanted to pick up the pace it seemed like my clothes would tighten up and weigh me down. Finished the race cursing my cold gear and vowing to dress down for the Polar Plunge 5K to guarantee better times. Imagine my surprise when I was in the car on the way to lunch and got a call from Richie saying the race organizers just announced my name for a trophy! God bless small, local races with tiny fields full of beginners.

In all seriousness, this was Richie and Bobby's first ever 5k and they did a phenomenal job. I'm extremely proud of their effort and initiative. You could tell they were nervous getting started but they settled in like pros as soon as the starting horn went off. And last but certainly not least, my superwoman Mel ran a mile and a half before AND after the race while finishing with a super speedy time. I'm so lucky to have such great people around me to share running with.
