It has been *forever* since I biked. I intended to ease my way into it, but unfortunately, I got very lost. Ah, the best intentions.

good Gym 4 mi 00:20 12.0mph pace
I don't remember the last time I cycled or rode a bike. I tried to do some intervals in there; not great, but something. I also did weights for arms and legs.

RUN
alright Island 0.4 mi 00:10:00 25:00 pace
I knew I wouldn't have any time to work out, so I tacked on a few minutes to the end of another activity. The jogging out and back along the water was nice, and I did jumping jacks and steps a... read more

Teaching myself that is a daily lesson. For whatever reason, I imagine workouts having to be a huge time commitment. Thanks Marsi and Drew!

alright Big Sur 5K 3.13 mi 00:38 12:18 pace
It was nice to do my 2nd 5K, and the view was beautiful. That said, I had not prepared for it, so my time was ~5 minutes slower than my 1st one. I'm looking for other fun ones to run.

good Gym 1.16 mi 00:14:00 12:04 pace
Ran for 10:15 straight at a 10:10 pace! Exciting to be working my way somewhere and feeling good. That said, it took a lot of force of will, as I wanted to stop from minute 3 through minute 10. Cle... read more

Nice Job:
Great job! My body always wants to stop at the 3 minute mark also. If I push it and keep going it stops in a couple of minutes and the rest of the run goes great. Not sure if it's a warm up thing or just mental. :-)

RUN
good Hotel Gym 1.25 mi 00:15:00 12:00 pace
Ran 10 full minutes at a 10:20 mile pace! Exciting for 3 reasons: (1) I'm working up to the ~30 minutes I need for the 5K in 1 month, (2) It took me much longer than 3 runs to work my way up t... read more

The best way I get through a Plank is by listening to a song that I know all the lyrics to, to make time seem to go by faster.

walk
alright Neighborhood 1.6 mi 00:20 12:30 pace
Jogged 0.65 miles of it. I'm okay with that, since I wasn't too keen on running on day #2, when I could still feel yesterday. Icing my shins now. (Time is a complete estimate.)

alright Neighborhood 2.1 mi 00:27 12:51 pace
Getting back in the saddle is full of shin splints and humiliation. The reward will be progress. Speed walked and jogged maybe 1/2 a mile. (Time is a complete estimate.)

Humiliation, why? You got out there and did a great job. You should be proud of yourself!

Welcome back! Take it slow, and try to focus on the fact that you're doing something great for your body and your soul! Shin splints - are you running in the right shoes?

Thanks Amber and Michele! Good to 'see' you both! Michele, it's the same shoes as before. Last time, it just took about a month, and then they mostly went away. If I keep at it for a month, I might just buy myself a new pair as a reward anyway. :)

RUN
good Neighborhood 1.95 mi 00:28 14:21 pace
I ran a mile without stopping! Completely out of shape! I guess that's what frustration/anger/disappointment will do to you. I'll take it. (Time is an estimate.)
-
Keep at it. The running will probably alleviate some of those feelings AND get you back to where you want to be physically. Good luck!

No need to rush. Just keep doing a little bit here and there when you can, it will help to build you back up. Good luck with your move!
