  1. RUN
    great Lunch hour 3 mi

Beautiful sunny day for a run. I took it at an easy pace, since tomorrow I am scheduled to do hill work. I also did 3 sets of reverse body weight rows and 3 sets of push ups.

  2. RUN

What a humid day. Today I combined a 3 mile loop with speed work. I joined my running group, and instead of doing 220 meter sprints x10, we did 2 miles around an 8:45 pace, then 220 meter sprints... read more

Kristen, I really want to. I almost signed up, and then realized that we are leaving on vacation that Friday, so will be out of town. So unfortunately, no. But this would be a great year for me to run it, as I've never done speedwork before like I am doing now.

Incredible day for a run. This is my favorite time of year...along with fall. I did a quick three miles, and threw in 3 sets of pushups and 3 sets of reverse body weight rows.

great Down, up, down and up again--... 4 mi

Whew! What a run. There is a hill that is a mile long with numerous switchbacks. We ran down, up, down and up again. Great workout! My legs are certainly feeling those hills.

  9. RUN
    great Lunch Hour 3 mi

Perfect day out today at 67 degrees and fairly sunny, though it was a bit windy. It was a day meant for running. 2 miles in, I stopped for 3 sets of reverse body weight rows and 3 sets of push ups.

      Nicely done, Nick!
Do you ever feel like a goober doing exercises in the middle of a run? I don't do them because I worry too much about being judged. Stupid, I know.

No, I don't. Right at the two mile mark, the park has some pull up bars, push up bars, and other equipment. I've found that it has helped my running incredibly. My core is stronger, and as a result I run stronger.

Don't worry about being judged. Do what you enjoy and what makes you feel good. Runners, I have found, typically do not judge. It is usually people who are couch potatoes who do the judging, and well, I frankly don't give a damn about their opinion. :-)

And also, I felt more self conscious when I discovered I was unable to do a single pull up. I could barely do 5 reverse body weight rows on the "easy" bar. Now I can do 3 sets of eight on the lower bar, with the pull up bar on my radar. Seeing this progress and beginning to see definition in the muscles in my arms help me get over any lingering self consciousness.

Just make sure you avoid the "workout police" or they may issue you a citation :-) This is funny since I told you how I'm pretty much doing the same thing when I'm running now, taking a break for a few strength exercises. In some ways I guess it's like that whole cross fit crazy (just don't tell the cross fit people - I get the feeling they would not agree) I'm not worried about being judged, I do think it's a bit unfair to my cardio as it is a break from running to recover.

This was solo. I run sprints with 3 other guys on Thursday. Other than that, it is solo. I've not run with a Garmin for some time, so decided to see how the sprints and body weight exercises have been helping me. And they help! A lot! I'm feeling much stronger, and this is the best pace I've run in a long time, if ever.

I am so not a people person. I'm nice enough... I'm just socially weird. I think that's one reason why running is so perfect for me; I don't HAVE to play with others. I have gone out with only a couple groups and I don't ever talk to people. Well, not true... I ran several miles with an old man that was really cool to talk to. But other than that, no. My bf is part of a group in GA that he wants me to run with when I'm there. He's all friendly and stuff... I am nervous about it, lol.

You sound a lot like me. Generally, I'm the quiet guy who doesn't say much in groups. One one one or in small groups that I know well, I open up. But with large groups, let's just say I'm no social butterfly.

Mmmm... bug! Sometimes, you just gotta eat the bug. There have been times when I don't even try to hack it; just take a long swig of water to help wash it down.

Oh, this isn't hot where I come from, just warm. Come July/August, it will be 105 and humid. I love 70's and 80s. I can tolerate the 90's. But over 100 is too hot! So I am loving this time of year.

Thank you Nick. I'm so torn up about this. I think you put it best yet "angry, sorrowful and compassionate" - it's so hard for me to not think about this like it could have been me. It could have been any of us. Take care, hug your kids.

I am too, Ben. This and the Sandy Hook tragedy have me shaken up terribly, because it could just have easily been me in both instances (except I'm not fast enough to qualify for Boston!). I wonder, why them, and not me? Why must they suffer terrible pain? It isn't fair. Yet, it certainly reminds me to love those around me fiercely.

I hear you Nick. You know, bad stuff happened in the world when we were kids, but I don't think it affect us, or at least me, because it wasn't something for me to relate to. Now, after having my own kids, it changes things. I feel like I'm coming off as heartless at times when I say that, but it's true. Side comment, unrelated to this - update your goals. They still say 2011 goals.
