good Lake Geneva Marathon 26.2 mi 04:38 10:35 pace

My first marathon is history! Will type up a more detailed race report later, after my feet stop hurting.

EDIT:
Official time posted and the stats of this run updated. 4:37:42 was the official time, although my Garmin said 4:34.

Posted some pictures, see them here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150167792101175.304130.624621174&l=ccfd192c5d

After thinking about the marathon, here are some thoughts.
Pretty sure I made the rookie mistake of starting too fast. I kept up a solid (for me) pace between 8:30 and 10:00 for the first 15 miles. As expected the super-steep hill that lasts for 1 mile between mile 16 and 17 kicked my butt and my pace slowed down after that.

I'm happy with my performance during the marathon and happy with my finish time. Everyone we talked to said we were nuts for running Lake Geneva as our first marathon, so that felt good. I like doing things that others think are too difficult. :)

There were only 200 marathon starters and 85 finishers. We talked to the people running the finish line timer computer and they said that a lot of people stopped at the half marathon finish line because they couldn't keep going. I was finisher #52 out of 85.

That's enough boring race details. It was a great experience and looking forward to the next one.

ORIGINAL HIGHLIGHTS:

1. Used RunMeter on my iPhone to allow my friends and family to see where I was at any given moment. Me forgetting to close all my other apps and RunMeter sending live GPS data every 5 minutes and me listening to music caused my battery to totally drain somewhere between mile 18 and 20.

2. The hills didn't disappoint.

3. Ran with 2 other friends, I beat them both. :) (though we weren't really racing)

4. Jen, my mom and the kids followed me around and I got to see their signs and whistles a few times. So cool.

Official time hasn't been posted yet, so I'll update when I get it. That is all for now.

    btw, I didn't realize the app was literally SPEAKING our comments. I would keep my comments short & sweet and left out all the txt slang and pace info. I'm guessing that stuff didn't translate well huh?

    Congrats!!! What did you think of the pizza? When I heard it was Gino's, I was assuming big stuffed pizza. I ran the Euro and for the last 8 miles that was all I could think of...

    Thanks Brains, Cherie and Joe. Joe - You ran the Euro today? I want to do that next year, looks awesome. Just went and read your post about it. Nice. The pizza was indeed crap. I was expecting awesome deep dish too, but it seemed more like Red Baron.

    I have a few other complaints too about the logistics, but I'll keep those to myself for now and send them in to the organizers. :)

    Thanks everyone.
    @Brains - Your comments came through perfectly, even the abbreviations and pace comments. RunMeter is pretty sweet.
    @Cherie - Thanks, hurts a bit, but its a good pain. :)
    @Joe - Congrats to your Euro finish as well. That's amazing!
    @David - Thanks, appreciate it.
    @Stephen - I have no question you will, you're running is amazing.
    @Augustin - Thanks!
    @Daniell - Thanks, though, it was a FULL, not a half. :) Around the half point, it would've been nice to have been done though. LO
