Is this a spectator friendly event? I have never been to an ultra and wouldn't mind checking it out. I assume it is looped.

@Colin: It is 5 loops. The main park road runs down the middle of the course, and runners are visible from that road in a few different areas. It's usually a pretty chill spectator experience. Most people hang out by the start/finish, bring chairs and food and drink. Think outdoor picnic rather than race :) It's $4/adult to get in the park, if you decide to head over there.

I am sorry, but I laughed after reading your post. I especially liked the walk of shame part. I know when something like that happens to me, I am determined to go back and figure it out. Great post and interesting run Nicholas.

The creek crossing is not so bad if it is closer to the end of the run and the temperatures are warm enough. Not that even this would slow you down much.

Wow 80 in January is hot! Sounds like you have the clues to the nutrition issues. The heat of course could have increased the rate of loss of electrolytes too. Either ways still a very solid 18 miler Nicholas!
