    great Krav Maga 01:15

I missed Krav Maga. Nice to start again, even if there are only 2 of us from last year's group, so we had to start pretty much from the beginning.

Lots of kneeing and open-hand hitting.

    Easy wee 5k 5.04 km 00:37 11:53 pace

For the past week, I've not been eating well, and I haven't worked out since Friday. I think that's the reason that I caught the first cold I've had in years. After not being ab... read more

That's a pretty good 5k when you are not feeling well! Hope you get better soon!

I just looked at the pace - it's really fast compared to my usual hill-training pace, more so given I'm not 100%. Thanks for pointing that out (and for your get-well wishes), Ruchi!

    Cool down 1 km 00:11:10 17:57 pace

A slow kilometre up the hill back home.

Did today's plank and squat challenge when I got home. Day 5 done!

  4. RUN
great Long interval run 11.49 km 01:20 11:11 pace

Set this up as warm up / 1 hour of 3:30/0:30 intervals / cool down.

In reality, I knew that the first 2km were downhill, and would be pretty easy, so I focused on running fast, with longer strides... read more

Diana K. has encouraged me to join her group of monthly challenges. I'm doing a 30-day plank challenge, and a 28 day squat challenge. About to do Day 3 right now.

great Long run intervals 8 km 00:55 11:08 pace

So, I have been told that the optimal run/rest interval times for a long run is 3:30/0:30. I have a couple of friends who clam that that's been how they've PR'ed in various distances... read more

great Long run part 1 - the fast bit 2.07 km 00:12:10 09:28 pace

This was the first 2km of today's long run. I noticed that my average pace was under 6 min/km, and given that it's usually around 7:30, part of this was vanity, having a fast average pace... read more

    great Easy 4km + hill sprints 4.55 km 00:35 12:14 pace

Same idea as Sunday - took the new shoes out for an easy spin to get used to them, and tacked some 8(ish)-second hill sprints on at the end for a bit of harder work.

Thanks. The book I've been reading really recommends short hill sprints. Really short. Start with 8 seconds. Later in the training cycle up it to 10 and eventually 12 second sprints. You can run a hill for. 8 seconds. I was surprised how short it was.

Good job Ruth. Now that we are past the "holiday marathon" hopefully you'll have a bit more time to get out and run. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the encouragement, Ben. My training in past years had always fallen over around Passover time, so I'm 6 months beyond normal this year! I kept up my running (to a greater or lesser extent) through Passover, summer holiday, war, overseas travel, and just about back to school. Seeing my goal for a significant pr at Jerusalem half this year. I can do the distance, but I'm going to do a lot of speedwork too. I have a little under 5 months. Let's see how it goes.

Nice run Ruth. I trust the holidays went well for you. I hope that you are able to start getting more runs in, if that's something that you want as well. Almost 8k is a pretty long distance without having run in 3 weeks. So great job!
