From KM to sister's house 1 km

My sister's unwell, so I went to the shop and bought her some groceries after class was over, before I started my run.

Including to log the distance in my shoes.

  2. RUN
    3*1k@5k 4.94 km 00:41 13:17 pace

So glad this wasn't longer! Tapering's supposed to be easy, but if you preface it with an hour's martial arts, you're adding to the challenge.

    great Krav maga 01:00

    This was a great class.

Started off with the trainer (and seriously, he's built like a tank!) attacking us each with a (dummy) knife. Phew! Way to get the adrenaline flowing! We then trained... read more

    2 km

The wee one had a bit of a cough, so James ran with the big one, and I walked with the middle one and the wee one, though it was part walk, part skip, and part run in the end.

That is some crazy weather. You know I never thought about this, but you don't have races on Saturday mornings do you? If so, I guess that makes sense. I thought about that when you mentioned your race is on Friday. Good luck!

There are some Saturday races, but must are Fridays, or Thursday night for night Races. The only women's triathlon is always Saturday mornings though

great Not quite13km at HMP 10.16 km 01:05 10:19 pace

This was supposed to be 13km at HMP, but given that I've not done much at pace that includes hills, I told myself I'd aim for 10km at pace, inside the neighbourhood.

Hills will prepare you for the flatter surface on race day - you'll be brilliant! Well done!

Yeah....that's just not fun and really not even practical. You need snowshoes if there is that much snow so you don't sink in. I think anything more than 2-3 inches and it's just not gonna happen.

It meant I missed my longest run, but I got a 19km, and a few 17-18's. I've done it before not training beyond 16 (10 miles), so I'm not too worried about making it or not.

    great 3*1600@10k - track workout 7.88 km 00:53 10:46 pace

Plan was 3 miles at 10k pace (6:15-6:25/km), with 3:30 rest between each one.

Ran today on the track, and struggled to keep my paces down, as it was flat.

    Dancing

Krav maga was cancelled, because 3 of the 5 of us in the class couldn't make it :(

But I went out in the evening and we danced instead.

  11. Friday should be snowy here. What do I need to know about running in the snow? (I don't think I ever have...)

Really? Snowy? Wow. That's something I wouldn't expect. So you are going for about 22km. Good luck. I wouldn't worry too much about needing to change your shoes. In my opinion unless it's really hard packed snow or ice extra traction isn't an issue. I'd worry more about cold, but the temps I see predicted for you are in the mid 30s - which isn't bad. A technical base layer, a fleece mid layer, and a wind proof lightweight jacket on top will do you fine. A nice hat and mittens should be all you need.

a foot?! I hate to be a pessimist, but you are going to need to look for areas that are well plowed/shoveled. Sometimes we head to a parking lot area are run around it a bunch of times. It's boring, but running through that much snow is more vertical exertion than horizontal movement. Do you have a way to get to a Treadmill? A day pass to a gym maybe? 22km in a foot of snow is not going to be easy. If it's not shoveled you'll need snowshoes, not trail shoes.
