great MDRA Womens Running Camp week 7 3.84 mi 00:42 10:50 pace
Tonight was considered a long run for camp. Basically, it was just a steady state effort instead of hills or fartleks or what have you. I actually logged slightly more distance last week, but goo... read more

#dailymission - How many training shoes do you have in rotation?
possibly too many? right now there are 7: (2) - Brooks Trance (1 about to retire), (1) Montrail, (1) Newton (experimental for me),... read more-
I am curious what you think of the Newtons. I have been running on vibrams and new balance minimalist for about 3 years now....

Jeff - I like Newtons pretty well but have been easing into them. I do not generally do minimalist shoes so worry about strange aches and strains. I do feel that I run differently in them. And I have a number of friends who swear by them (which is why I bought them to try). Newton often offers clinics at running stores where you can try running in them etc. You may want to check with a running store near you that carries them.

I guess I would vote "for". I have never had bumper stickers of any kind on my cars, but I like the "100" sticker that Michael has on his. Can I still say "26.2" based on my 2002 Marathon? Seems like they ought to expire after a few years.

great MDRA Women's Running Camp - f... 4.01 mi 00:42 10:35 pace

Sounds great, Nora! I learned the fartlek system in high school, circa 1959, from a volunteer coach. I thought the term had dropped out of use today, in favor of "intervals". The Swedish word sounds a bit bad in English, but I have always liked it. There is a good article about it in Wikipedia.

I hear you about that one, Nora. I was a single mom of a 2 year old (until he was 5), and it was a struggle to make the running work. When my son would stay with my mother, I would log as many miles as I could. On a normal day, when he was with me, I had to log my runs on the treadmill at the gym at work. I hated to do it that way, but it was about the only way to maintain sanity.
