Our plans to go up north this weekend were canceled due to matters outside of our control, so that meant I regained the possibility of running in my first Winter Witch's Hat race. The Witch's Hat runs in South Lyon have become favorites of mine. What I was not expecting was how cold it was going to be this morning: 9 °F, windy. I don't even know what the windchill was.
The only thing I regretted about this race was the drive there. The roads were not quite clear yet and there were plenty of cars in ditches by the side of the road, including just before I got to the South Lyon High School. Therefore, I was anticipating a smaller turnout. I certainly underestimated the South Lyon Cross-Country faithful.
They ran the course opposite of what they do in the Summer. The sidewalks and roads were only clear in spots, but it was only slippery in spots. I did not PR that shit, but I can at least cross off "run a race in single-digit temperatures" off of my bucket list.
Favorite comment: "My watch said I ran 3.13 miles. It was because I kept being blown backwards so much."
