Melinda, don't be afraid of taking a little time off if it is just soreness. Running is a lot of pounding on the body and it needs time to rest and heal. Cross training is really important to keep your fitness. Do biking, core workouts, squats, lunges, etc. Just keep moving forward. You don't loose much if you take a little time off and it comes back quick. Focus on the goal.

At one point during my 16 week training for my 1st marathon, I took 6 days off, skipped my short runs but still ran the long one at the end of the week. I was feeling burned out and tired at that point and it did me a lot of good.
