great epic long run 20 mi 02:25 07:13 pace

best.run.ever!

I agreed to meet Presley in town at 10:45 so I tried to squeeze in 12 miles before that. I was planning to average a ~7:30 pace but I left 2 minutes late so then I needed a 7:20 pace to keep with my tight schedule. I picked up the pace after the first couple of miles and I just felt strong; almost invincible.
I met her right on time and got in some extra distance as she stretched so I wouldn't have to stop. Ran ~4.5 miles with her, dropped her off at her car and then headed home. I finally started to feel fatigued around the 19th mile but that could have been because mile 18 was sub-7:00.
The first 17 miles were at a 7:15 average and I picked it up on the way home.

Beautiful weather today: sunny and pushing 40 with a slight breeze. I felt very comfortable (almost too warm) in shorts, t-shirt and gloves.

I carried my handheld bottle with water but mixed in Propel and chia seeds. It could be all mental, but I felt sooooo good for not consuming any other nutrition during the run. I'll have to try this mixture again to see if it really is doing something.

Somehow, i did this all after a late gig and less than 4 hours of sleep.

Paul - quite frankly, I more baffled than you are!

Caleb - I bought a smaller bag (just to sample) at a local health food store. But you can find them in bulk on Amazon and save money.

Right on. One more question - do you grind them with a mortar and pestle before mixing? I do that with flax seeds before adding to smoothies, so I have the right gear if necessary.

Fantastic long run! Cool fueling too. I have trouble fueling in my long runs. I'll have to give Chia seeds a try.

Caleb - nope I just stir them in and shake it up a lot. I can't explain it, but they turn into a gel like substance when in contact with water. They look like seeds but with a gel coating. I just swallow them with each drink...I actually love the texture.

The real question here is whether or not these Chia seeds are what they make Chia Pets out of.

If you were almost too warm today in shorts, a shirt, and gloves, how on earth do you run when it's hot? Excellent mileage and pace today!

I'm excited to see someone else trying Chia seeds. I ordered some Chia seeds and Pinole (i recently read Born to run) from Amazon.com and it was pretty inexpensive. Looking forward to experimenting with them as well. OH.....nice run btw

It's all in the Chia. I've been feeling the same way since sticking only to that fuel mixture. Bonus, the seeds are awesome in oatmeal or any other hot cereal. Great, great run today.

I hope it's the chia seeds! Because getting a hold of those would be a lot easier than going for a run like this. Great post!
