New 5K PR. I'm embarking on a plan this year to get faster by running fewer long-distance races and increasing my speed on a series of short-distance races. This was the first test race to see what I could do. The weather and course were ideal -- sunny, crisp, gentle breeze on a flat and mostly shaded course. I ate and drank exactly right before the race & had a good warmup run. Nik paced me on the course and was trying to get me under 11 min/miles for each mile. She was the perfect coach and kept pushing me to go strong when my natural wariness was telling me to slow down and take it easier. I cut 2 minutes off my previous PR and in retrospect felt like I could've pushed it a bit more. Either way, this was the fastest I've run yet. You're the best, honey! Official time: 33:24. My mom did great too -- she got a medal for coming in 2nd in her age group.

Wow, great time and so consistent! Good plan to work on your speed with shorter races. When you do chose to do another half you will crush your PR.

Nice job on pushing the pace! Mark down what worked for you today so you know how to do that again.

Great race! I think you'll be crushing that pace pretty soon. Track workouts have really helped me increase my speed. They hurt SO bad, but they do the trick!

Wow! All that work you've done for the longer races is paying off in the shorter distances too. Nice job.
