great Zone 2 - "Recovery" 2 mi 00:29 14:20 pace
I am learning extreme patience to "run" this slow. Felt awesome. This whole Zone 2 must feel like what you all speedy people do all the time. I honestly felt like I was walking. :)

good Zone 4 - Heat Wave 2.12 mi 00:25 11:47 pace
SUPER FREAKING HUMID 1st outdoor run back in 2 months. Holy Hot Batman. June and July sucked for outdoor running so I kept my workouts inside at they gym, on the treadmill or track and some swimmin... read more

great HR Training "Run" 3.53 mi 00:45 12:48 pace
I am quite sure this time looks as ridiculous to you as it does to me. BUT - it's all about my HR right now. The humidity today was BRUTAL and I kept having to slow down to keep my HR in my Zone 2.... read more

RUN
great Zone 2 Training 3.02 mi 00:36 12:02 pace
Great mind clearing run in my HR Zone 2 for all but the last .3 miles. Followed up with a bunch of active isolated stretching on my cool-down walk. My neighbors think I look silly. :)

Nice job Colleen! Maybe you look silly but the stretching is so important, good for you!

great Easy, Low Heart Rate Run 2.51 mi
I focused on keeping a lower heart rate today. Like below 140. It was relatively painful mentally because I WANTED to run harder. All good though. I'm working towards a goal. :)

Heart Rate Training
So one of my goals is to bring my heart rate DOWN. Ask Meredith C. about how high my heart beats during runs. It's ridiculous.
Are there any heart-rate training programs out ... read more

Colleen....the only thing that you can get down with training is your resting HR....you were born w/ your max. It will never change. I happen to have a very high max HR---210. I don't fit into that nice little 220-age formula for my max! It frustrated me too when I first started keeping track of it. My SIL is HR training certified (and also has a high max) and gave me this cool worksheet to calc my own custom max HR. It's based on perceived exertion.

This is the only book you need for HR training:
http://www.amazon.com/Heart-Monitor-Training-Compleat-Idiot/dp/0915297256Basically you do easy runs under 70% of your max measured HR using the Karvonen range, and for your tempo's, intervals, etc you pitch the HRM. Get the book, though.

Whoops, get this one instead. That last link was for the out-of-print first version of the book. This is the reprint:

RUN
good Jacksonville Symphony Classic 3.96 mi 00:42 10:36 pace
Finished the Jax Symphony Classic! I wasn't last and I didn't die. I'm happy with the run but the bridge, turn around, run back over the bridge section at the beginning kinda sucked. :)

Congratulations Colleen! Finishing a race is always such a satisfying feeling. Now you can start planning for the next one! :D
