Slept in and did the 5:30 ride today, which felt so good. I was armed with my new LTHR data so I focused on staying in the new zone. I had to remind myself to push sometimes, because it's just so easy to back off and ride easy. Got to ride with 2nd-time 70.3 finishers Roxy W. and Shannon B. and was amazed at their frogginess so soon after a tough race. I also got to ride with the Master of Numbers, Cason G., the Most Interesting Conversationalist, Charles M., and If-I-had-a-younger-brother-this-is-who-I'd-pick Chad B.. It was a good ride, and I like the numbers. I just hope they're officially within my aerobic zone. Avg HR=152 I missed the Girl from Ridgeland Farms, though. It's just not the same without my pookie, Sara A..

Good ride. Pookie?

You are awesome and absolutely one of my favorite people in the world. Great ride and run today! It was great to be back training with you!

Great ride! Thanks for listening to the endless stories. Did you just make up HR target numbers that you like better?

That was fun. Good ride. What is LTHR?

haha. No Roxy. I used Cason's Joe Friel website which took my avg HR in the race Saturday and multiplied by 81%-89%, which gave me my Lactic Threshhold Heart Rate (LTHR), which is the point at which my body starts to build up Lactic Acid. New zone is 150-165 for the bike. 158-165 for the run (85%-89%). Just want to check this info with Hardy.

Numbers! I'm curious to see what H has to say.

My only concern is that sure we are below our lactic threshold HR, but that would mean we are spending some time in that in-between phase where we aren't completely aerobic or completely anaerobic. So, I'm torn. Need more research. Awesome pace though Mego!

agree, Sara. Good news is, this ride falls into my old Z2, so I didn't do too much damage. The run was a completely different story.

First, Joe suggests that you perform your tests solo and not at a race. Your numbers will be lower because you don't have the competitive juices flowing. That is debatable. Also, you want to do it a couple of times to get a more accurate number. Eliminates the flukes and variables. The way I understand it is you have 3 energy systems. One aerobic and two anaerobic. What is there between aerobic and anaerobic?

Zone 3. Hardy always said that's where your body is having a hard time deciding between aerobic and anaerobic, so it's not completely in either stage.

Ah. If you follow Joe, then stay away from 90% to 94% of LTHR. That is zone 3. I guess the arguement is are those percentages too high and could it possibly be in zone 3 according the 180-age formula that gets you in the "ballpark" for the average person. Joe's method is very close to the HR data on my VO2 test.

I am pretty sure I know what Hardy will say. And pretty sure you will not like it. But I am pretty sure you already know that.
