good Turkey and Taturs 25k Trail Run - Turkey Mountain, OK 15.6 mi 03:47 14:33 pace

Ran the Turkey and Taturs 25k at Turkey Mountain in Tulsa, OK. I was kind of nervous and excited to run it by myself and I ended up being very happy with my time. The trees were in their fall colors and the scene was very beautiful even though I only got to look at the ground most of the run. There were some very technical sections on the trails because the leaves were covering the path of rocks and roots. I tried to start the race at the back but people kept lining up behind me (I must look fast) so I took the first 30 minutes too fast. I felt awful and had a bad headache and kept getting passed. Finally people thinned out and I was by myself for a while which helped me be able to go at my pace. The trail was very well marked, however, the only thing I didn't like was that I didn't see any mile markers so for almost the entire run I had no idea how far I had run. I hate asking other people the distance because in my experience 99% of the time they're wrong. And that was true of this run as well. I'm all about the journey, but it can be mentally frustrating to have no perspective of distance. I did have to walk some of the technical sections because I starting tripping and almost face planted into a sharp rock. My MIL and our friend Lindsay walked/jogged the 10k and Lindsay is 8-1/2 months pregnant so I started to worry about them a bit. And some of the hills were really steep so I hiked up those. For the last hour my legs got really fatigued, but I really wanted to finish well so I tried to not let myself walk and I ended up being really happy with my time.
