RUN
alright Lifetime Fitness - Treadmill 1.85 mi 00:33 17:49 pace
My pace was horrible, ended up pulling something in my leg. It seems to be swollen and bruised, who knows what I did this time. Was good to get back into it after a long week of being lazy.

good Treadmill - Gym 1.83 mi 00:30 16:23 pace
I was just testing out the treadmill at the gym. Has been such a long time since I have used one and it felt so weird.

Feeling horrible about not logging any exercises the past week. Been working crazy work shifts that leave me too exhausted at night and not enough energy in the morning to beat the heat.
-
I feel your pain. I've been a lot busier than normal at work lately and 3 nights a week I'm not home much at night due to working out. It's hard fitting in the other stuff! Hope you get a breather soon.

RUN
alright Alpharetta, GA 1.2 mi 00:17 14:30 pace
Quick run before it got too hot, was alternating jogging and speed walking ever 60 seconds.
-
nice one (: I'm trying to decide when to run...I slept in so I missed the cool early-morning hours, but I don't want to wait till it gets dark either...I might just have to brave the heat and jump in the pool when I'm finished :D

Great way to alternate Maurice. Sounds like a lot of us are dealing with the heat as best we can.

Great run, Maurice! I'm with Kris -- everyone is trying to adapt and cope with this heat. Good for you for getting those miles in early. I overslept today, so I have to deal with it tonight! :( Haha

Shannon, thank you. Hmm, a quick jump in the pool sound like a brilliant idea right now.
Kris, thanks. Yeah, it is pretty bad. It is around 7pm and still around the 90s. The only plus is that the sun is slowly setting.
Matthew, I have to do it in the morning since around dusk all the mosquito come out which just causes one problem after the other.

What's your favorite unconventional way to cross-train?
- Racquetball, but also love to play football (soccer). Just harder to find a team.1 person liked what Maurice said -

- Swim, it is so warm outside and 30 minutes is just enough time to swim several laps!1 person liked what Maurice said -
RUN
alright Alpharetta, GA 1.93 mi 00:28 14:42 pace
Had to stop in middle to walk off some serious cramps, was just alternating jogging and walking for ~30 min before it got too hot.
-
Great workout -- sorry about all of the cramping! "Just keep swimming.." Haha. Did you get a chance to try out any of the suggestions that Cassi & Amanda mentioned? Try some LIGHT stretching before and after the runs to see if that helps.Basic stretches work fine for me most of the time, but it depends on where you're getting most of the cramps.

Yeah, I had a yogurt and a banana before I went out and made sure I hydrated enough beforehand. I did my usual stretching, that normally covers all the basic muscle groups. It felt like it was the soleus muscle that kept cramming up on my left foot, my whole foot ended up becoming numb at the end until I rested for a few minutes.

FIT
good Golfing 04:00
Went golfing yesterday, pretty sore all over. Was my first time golfing, so I missed a lot of the shots and had to re swing. Plus first sunburn of the summer!
-
oh gosh :P I went golfing for the first time with my dad last summer...I love spending time outdoors, and I absolutely adore spending time with my dad, but I just hate golfing! (Maybe because I'm so bad at it...)
Good workout, though--I imagine golfing uses a lot of muscles that don't otherwise get much use.about 1 year ago • Like

RUN
blah Alpharetta, GA 1.22 mi 00:18 14:44 pace
Had to stop after a mile because my legs were cramping up so badly. Any advice what to eat in the morning to reduce this problem?
-
Making sure to include a source of potassium in m my diet every day helps me. Favorites are yogurt and bananas.

Try a green smoothie made up of bananas, spinach, and maybe some orange or apple juice. It gives you potassium, protein, and sugar all in one go.

Matthew, yeah I try my best to stretch. But what are some good stretches especially for running. I normally do the basic ones I learned in gym a long time ago.
Amanda, hmm that sounds really interesting. I need to start pulling out the blender.

I'm not sure what to tell you. :-( I used to have this problem, but I'm not sure what I did to make it go away. Best guess, I learned to focus my breathing from the abdomen, rather than desperately trying to pull in enough just from the chest. And I learned to accept that I'm going to breathe hard, and not fight it, but rather do it on my own terms, if that makes any sense, lol. Your body needs more oxygen when you run; make a concentrated effort to breathe more deeply and take in as much as possible

Yeah, I tried to focus on only breathing thru my nose and if helped a little bit. Maybe my lungs are just not used to this and have to adjust.
I did some research and most people are saying to pace your breathing. Need to see if that works.
Thanks for the advice :)

Glad you are back Maurice. I wouldn't call it an epic fail..you got out there and tried..that's worth something. It's been a month since my half and up till this week the most I did was 2.6 miles at a time. We all have times where running just doesn't seem to be going for us..but I bounced back today..and I know you will too.

I have one on blogspot. It's listed on my profile, but the link is www.takethesinglestep.blogspot.com. Don't worry about the weight. You can and will take it off. I started around the same weight you are now, and I'm down to about 210 now. 175 is my pre-baby weight (4 babies later, lol). But I'd like to see lower, since I'm a 5'5" tall girl. Do you use any kind of weight-loss support? I go for TOPS, myself (www.tops.org), but I know a lot of others say Weight Watchers works wonders for them.

if you continue to work out, you'll lose the weight. The fact that you are doing something about it is awesome. I have a couple of blogs, lately my personal one hasn't been updated much since I've been busy, but here it is:
