knee is feeling okay, hope to be out for my first run after a few months off in a few weeks. Gotta just do loads of walking to make sure I don't push it too early as usual

I'll do my best. It is getting a little tiresome. I just panic when I think about losing all the fitness I have gained but I know I wont really lose all that much. Just being a typical runner addict

You will not lose much fitness if any in 2 weeks, don't worry. You are doing the right thing.

I think you need to completely rest from any exercise involving your legs until your knee recovers. I know it's hard to do but it's better that way than to keep relapsing.

Have you had a video gait analysis? If not you really should. If you need shoes to correct your gait, orthotics might be a good option because they can be transferred between your different pairs of shoes and allow you to buy neutral/cushioned shoes each time. Also I have found neoprene supports useful for knee problems in the past - no probs lately, touch wood. Good luck for a full recovery.

i had one a year ago and they said I needed minor support for my running. But my trail shoes are neutral which I thought I could get a way with but apparently I need the support for all my footwear. I have a neoprene support so it keeps the muscles warm and has helped rather a lot. Just trying to stretch the last of the soreness out and self massage the muscles to break down an scar tissue that may have built up

I think the theory is that with off road running your feet are constantly adjusting to the uneven surface and there is no need for support, hence trail shoes aren't normally made in a support version.

That's what i thought too but the hill reps etc I do with my club is on a field which is rather even so I guess it could be responsible for the injury

Can anyone reccommend a good physio in the birmingham area? Both knees just dont feel right now and I.t band feels tender. Not good!
-
so it seems that I have runners knee. Off the running for probably a week and can't do stairs well at all. And I have the London 10k in less than 5 weeks. This is not good!

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I'm afraid he didn't come up with much more than rest and get some professional treatment on it. Sounds quite serious. He said it sounds as if you're landing on the outside of your feet and may need to adjust your step with orthotics. Wish I had some better news.

Thanks for the advice clare. I am walking okay but I can feel a stinging sensation still at the base of my i.t band I had this last year and it wasnt pretty to say the least, looks like a will have no other choice but to see a physio. London looks less likely now too.

My wife had the same thing five weeks ago (heard a popping noise just bending down) she ignored it an then ran a 15k trail afterwards couldn't bend it properly or put any weight on it. Pulled som ligaments which meant the knee wasn't tracking correctly. Had to RICE and is currently receiving physio, she's only just started run/walk again. give it a few days rest and see how it feels, if it's still the same maybe get it checked out. Sorry to hear about the pain and obviously my wife's injury was worse case

Hi Matthew, are you feeling tired in general, i.e. no energy? If so, you might want to rest up. If you feel you can run, try taking it slowly for 15 mins and see how you feel afterwards. If you feel fine after 15, continue with the session, otherwise stop and take it another day.
-
Thanks for the advice aaron. I went out and made sure I checked out how I felt after every 15 minutes. Felt much better than I expected. Was considering not going out but I guess it just goes to show that getting out the door is more difficult than the actual run.
