Only hoped for 1:45 or so. But things went well today. I walked about 6 of the water tables. Didn't push real hard. This is almost 2.5 minutes slower than I ran this race last year, but considering I'm coming back from an injury and couldn't run at all a month ago, I'm very satisfied with this. The only problems now are that I'm having some cramping issues and I can tell I'm going to have to spend some time stretching tonight. But right now I think I'll take a nap. I can really use some recovery time.
Started off at a good clip and held a solid pace through mile 8 but then my average pace went up. I got slower. Just couldn't hold on to it through the end as strong as I might've liked. Haven't done all that much running in the last 1-2 months (due to injury/recovery) and I guess the aerobic conditioning from swimming and cycling just isn't exactly equivalent to that of running.
So if I consider this a training run, it really rocked. Looking forward to 2012 race season.

Great race, especially coming off an injury. A sign of good things to come for you this season - congrats!

Thanks, ladies. I was very apprehensive about this race today. Didn't want to count too much on doing very well. So reassuring to have it come out solid.

I honestly do not know how I did this. I was looking down at my watch at paces of 7:04, 7:14, 7:01, 7:16 etc for much of the run. My "slow" parts were around 7:28-7:38. And then walking the water stops brought my average way down. I was thinking I might bonk at the end, but whatever...I was going to go with it as long as I could.

It is a pretty flat race. I mean, by the beach and all.

Whoot! Whoot! Congratulations Sheila! Your great training and taking care of yourself seems to be working for you! Your split times might have slowed in the end but they were still good enough to get you a PB in that race. Happy for you! You earned it! :+)

Thanks everyone. Rina, this was not a PB. It is slower than the three halfs I ran last year and almost 2.5 minutes slower than my PB in this same race last year. It is my 4th fastest half marathon out of 18 in the past 5 years.

Absolutely a great run. Except for the calf cramping the last 3 miles. ;)
