      It's not safe. A car backing out of a driveway is less likely to notice a cyclist who comes whizzing out of nowhere - sure, they should be looking both ways for sidewalk traffic but we all know most drivers are pay more attention to the road. Also leaves the cyclist with less time to respond. If they are willing to accept the risk of riding on the sidewalk, at least move out of the way for legit pedestrians. Otherwise... beware flying running shoes!
