Meh, still injured. Tried to do an easy five and ended up once more walking the last mile. (sigh) Back to taking it one day at a time, I guess.

injured Moreland - Highland - Johnson... 6.98 mi 00:59 08:24 pace
Wow, that SUCKED. The right Achilles is very angry with me, and trying to compensate for that issue made my right hamstring begin to hurt. Set out on an eight mile and knew at the turnaround that I... read more

blah Track workout at Emory 3.83 mi 00:30 07:53 pace
Too hot! :P Between the 84 degree heat and some pain low in my right Achilles tendon, I decided to shut it down after only three repeats of 400m. - Back to 100% after some icing.

Watch that Achilles! Smart to shut it down Marius.

great Clifton - Ponce - Commerce - ... 6.1 mi 00:49 07:59 pace
Easy 6, felt great! Smooth progression: First mile 8:37, last mile 7:19. Skipping the group run this evening; this week will be tough enough without the additional miles!

good Track workout at Emory 9.31 mi 01:09 07:22 pace
Sunny, low sixties, windy. Two miles easy, 5x 1 mile @ 6:46, two miles easy. Splits: 6:35, 6:35, 6:37, 6:44, 6:43. A most encouraging result! I had worried prior to the workout about being able to... read more

Encouraging, indeed! However, I totally get the part about being "respectful." Question: How fast are these repeats for you vs. goal 10K race pace? Also, looking at what I've been running, what do you think my chances of pulling off a 6:55 at the Peachtree (honest assessment)? I'd have a little more confidence if the terrain were more like the Possum Trot, that's for sure. I still feel a long way off. You, my friend, are smokin' fast!

P.S. One can calculate training paces from virtually any race distance. There are several online calculators available.4, e.g. http://www.runworks.com/calculator.html. (Check out the predicted race times based on a recent result, e.g. your predicted 5K time based on a recent 10K.) The book "Daniels Running Formula" includes tables and explains the science.

Mile repeats - FUN! How many of them? I have 4 on Monday with 2min recoveries. Trying not to think about it now...

Warm-ish. 5 sets of (200, 200, 400) @ 5:30 pace with equal distance recovery. Had to cut the warmup and cooldown a bit short due to lack of time (6 laps instead of 8, and 3 laps instead of 8); the ... read more

I still haven't gotten up to 50 in quite a while myself. I was happy to hit the mid-40s. Sorry this run wasn't pleasant. Yep, I think I will be paying for my weekend gallivanting tomorrow.

It's okay, as I said, it wasn't meant to be pleasant: In fact, the intended purpose is to hit the wall pretty hard and force the body to adapt. So it all went according to plan. ;) This sort of thing (hard track workout followed by a long run) will be happening on a regular basis until it's time to taper for the race. I'll just eat it each time and come back for more! :)

I love it how our goal is to be harder and harder on ourselves so that we'll "get used to" it! And it's even wilder that we do all this FOR FUN!!

Injured? When did I miss this?! Oh no - things sounded like they've been going so well. I hope it's very minor. My coach says he now wants me to run the Possum Trot, so I'm in for it. Maybe we can do our warm-up together. I was able to do 4 miles (w/2min recoveries between each) at between 6:44 and 6:47 last week. It's still a long way from 6.2 miles @ 6:55 on hills, but I am slowly seeing progress.
