Planned called for 17 today. For a brief moment I thought of doing 12 to step back given this past week of illness, but I chose the 17 mile loop and gave it the old college try. Finished the last three in my goal MP (7:37, 7:27, 7:36). Felt great through the run keeping HR in the zone and not coughing too much. Fueled using Hammer Heed and a GU pack (I won't take the GU again).
Listened to the following cast:
DDRD - Ep 45 TOMF - listening to Mike talking about 5 hours runs on a Friday eve (wow!)
EarlyMorningCruzin - Ep 4 - James is looking forward to turning 50(sick)
Runblogger.com - EP 13 Starting a Running Blog - very interesting - Pete has made a very successful blog and shares his secrets
RRL Ep 113 - Chris R talking about the new 4th of July in Foxboro. - wish I lived closer...sounds like an awesome race.

Nice run Brendan! What didn't you like about the GU? Now that my mileage is up—18 miler tomorrow—and we're just six weeks away from the Frederick (MD) Marathon, I need to find a low-sugar energy fuel.

First of all, GREAT run! Tremendous job kicking up your marathon pace. I know we all run our pace, but it's hard not to take note of other's stats and compare. Your heart rate at that pace seems so low!
Interesting too you quit using Gu. I went to Fleet Feet yesterday and exchanged the 14 I had left from a 24 pack for Hammer Gels. They sit in my stomach like a rock. Too sugary. Heed is awesome too!

Terrific effort and solid results. I will begin trying gels once my long runs get above 10 miles I think. Gels were not part of the running community when I last ran a marathon [some 15 years ago].

Nice run, Brendan. Especially considering you've been under the weather recently and wanted to call it quits after 12. Its those 5 miles you ran when you didn't want to, that defines a runner.
