I pulled a muscle in my chest mid-week and then forgot about it. It hurt so much while I was running, eek.

RUN
injured On a treadmill 2.1 mi 00:30 14:17 pace
I'm still experiencing muscle pain in my abdomen after running for about ten minutes. It wasn't as bad as last time but it's still quite frustrating. I probably pushed myself too far.

RUN
injured On a treadmill 2 mi 00:30 15:00 pace
I must have pulled a muscle in my chest when I fell down the stairs last week. Overall it was a decent run although I had to slow down half way through because of the muscle pain. I'm still tr... read more

RUN
tired On a treadmill 1.5 mi 00:20 13:20 pace
Recovering lost fitness is going to be challenge but I think it's manageable. I fell down the stairs on the bus on Wednesday and am still quite sore.

I'm tempted to take between a week to two weeks off from running. I can't go to the gym tomorrow but I'd still like to exercise over five times a week. My right side is very painful ... read more

RUN
injured On a treadmill 1.7 mi 00:26 15:17 pace
I really shouldn't have gone to the gym. I tried running quite gingerly without moving my arms too much and my stamina is incredible but after ten minutes the pain started up again. My muscles... read more

How about doing some cycling? You can still build up your endurance and heart and lung strength, plus work many of the same muscles as for running, but without moving your upper body. When you are healed and return to running (sooner than if you keep running through this injury) you will see an immediate improvement!
-
Thank you for the advice :) You're right, I'll definitely try cycling for a little while. Being unable to run is so frustrating, haha.

RUN
injured On a treadmill 2.1 mi 00:31 14:45 pace
The first ten minutes went well until I felt a very sharp pain down my right side. I thought it was just a stitch so carried on and adjusted my breathing pattern in the hope that it'd get bett... read more

RUN
good On a treadmill. 2.9 mi 00:40 13:47 pace
No hills today and my endurance has improved remarkably. I didn't stop at all (this time and distance includes three minutes of walking to warm-up at the beginning, though) and only felt serio... read more

I just read something online explaining that running up hills can make your legs bulk up? I do almost all of my running on a fairly high 'rolling hill setting' and this is quite worrying.... read more

Ha. I wish. I lift HEAVY weights for HOURS each week to achieve muscular legs. You're not going to gain any muscle by running. Also, toning doesn't exist. You either have muscle or you don't. It can be covered in more or less fat. You can only gain muscle at a calorie surplus, and you can only lose fat at a calorie deficit. Unless you are following an intense lifting regime, or focussing all your workouts around resistance training of some kind, you are not going to gain any muscle.

Thank you :) You're right. Wish I could lift weights! I'd love muscles in my arms (an Ennis stomach wouldn't be unwelcome, though, haha!) No idea where to start, though.

Do you have gym membership? I didn't when I started lifting. I can explain a bit if you like about how to start either at home or at a gym.

Nice session. There's no rhyme or reason to stitches. I get them at the strangest of times when I'm least expecting them. Main thing is you carried on regardless:-)

RUN
blah On a treadmill 2.1 mi 00:30 14:17 pace
Felt absolutely rubbish while I was running but quite well afterwards. The high pollen count is making my breathing awful. Rest day tomorrow, I think.

I've taken to training indoors and at the pool this week. Air quality is awful. You did well:-)
