      I also struggle with 2nd mile but what helps me is to pretend that I am just racing 2 miles. I promise myself I will race hard to the two mile (whatever my goal pace is) and then hang on with what I have left in the 3rd. I always have more than I think I will have at the end.

      Similar to that, I had a coach who would always say "'x' laps, then the last one."

      So a 5k would be "2 miles, then the last one!"
