  1. RUN
good Tuesday Night Nicholls Oval Laps 10 km 01:00 09:39 pace

Those puddles are still numbingly cold.

  2. RUN
good North End Loop 13 km 01:20 09:54 pace

I took advantage of the warmer air today (5°C) and ran this 13k barefoot. However, the puddles are painfully cold and there are some big ones on the sidewalks and paths. The first 10k I ran easy. ... read more

  3. RUN
good Trent and Back 12.25 km 01:15 09:51 pace

It was a bit cold and damp. The fresh layer of wet snow was enough to get the salt shakers out so I ended up wearing the Feelmax. Even though it wasn't the best run, I'm glad I got out an... read more

    great St. Patrick's Day 5k 5 km 00:24 07:40 pace

Not bad for the first race of the year. The last part of the race was salted ice, but other than that, the road was dry and warm.

      fantastic time!
i agree, salt (or more usually, other ice-melting chemicals) is not fun for bare feet.

  6. RUN
good Pub Run 8.5 km 00:50 09:28 pace

The warmer air and the extra hour of evening sun brought me out of my hibernation. For a comeback run I'll take it. If I'm not too sore tomorrow, I'll try to do the workout since the... read more

  7. RUN
good Old Norwood Rd. 13 km 01:15 09:17 pace

I wore the feelmax for the whole run today. I have learned that -5°C and damp salty roads can cause problems for my feet. I'm still trying to find the best way for me to continue to run throug... read more

  8. RUN
good Old Norwood Rd. 15.5 km 01:30 09:20 pace

It was nice to be running in temperatures above freezing, but with the roads still heavily salted I wore the feelmax for the beginning and end of this run. Thanks for the company Doug.

  9. RUN
good Pub Run 10.5 km 00:55 08:25 pace

The wind made the -6°C feel a lot colder, so I opted for the Feelmax today. This was the first run of the year, but not the first barefoot run of the year for me.

  10. RUN
alright Pub Run 8 km 00:45 09:03 pace

I enjoyed the light dusting of fresh snow, but at -5°C I did not enjoy the salted streets and sidewalks. The run felt good for the most part, I just hope the salt effect didn't do any damage.

Salt when combined with snow or ice causes it to melt by dropping the temperature. That super cooled water/slush reaches and freezes parts of the feet that don't come in contact with the ground. It can also freeze deeper into the skin layers. Salt by itself on a dry surface isn't so bad.

great Pub Run 7 km 01:00 13:47 pace

This was another enjoyable Runner's Life Holiday Fun Run. Thanks Dave! At -12°C, it was the warming sun, the dry conditions and the great aid station that made this barefoot run doable for me.... read more

  12. RUN
great Pub Run 7 km 00:40 09:11 pace

As long as the temperatures stay like this, I will be able to continue running barefoot in relative comfort. The rock salt on the sidewalks was the worst part of the run.

  13. RUN
good Old Norwood Rd. 17 km 01:50 10:24 pace

I decided to wear the Feelmax Kuusaas today because of all the ice and salt. I was planning on taking them off once I got to the not so salty country roads, but decided it would be easier to just l... read more

alright Jackson Park Path 11 km 01:20 11:42 pace

That was first time I have run that far on gravel at a temperature that cold. The ground temperature at the start was -4°C which made the gravel feel that much more pokey. Once I got past the numbi... read more

  16. RUN
great Pub Run 9.5 km 00:52 08:48 pace

It was nice to have the snow melted off the streets and sidewalks with the 12°C temperatures, but I could do without the strong wind with 50km/h gusts.

  17. RUN
good Trent and Back 11 km 01:04 09:21 pace

The packed trail snow wasn't so bad at -5°C compared to the road and sidewalk snow that was several degrees colder due to the salt. Once I got on the trail, I was warmed up and the snow felt s... read more

ice-melting chemicals (not salt, the other stuff) play hob with the feet.
i find it something like walking on lye!
anyway, hope you left lots of footprints in a fantastic pace!

  18. RUN
great Jackson Park Path 10 km 00:55 08:51 pace

Considering this run was done at -5°C and on snow and gravel, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.
