I lot of people on here like Brooks, especially the Launch and the Adrenaline. I always go with Asics, usually either the Pulse or the Nimbus. I would recommend going to a running store and trying on several pairs to make sure you find the shoes that work for you. Each person is different. There's a running store (Runner's Retreat) in Winchester that carries a lot of good shoes and they usually give good advice. Welcome to the site and good luck training for your first 5K!

well you could just walk right across the street and pick out 8 or 10....or a thousand pairs haha. i have asics and they've treated me pretty well. check kohls because they sell a lot of decent shoes at big discounts.

agree with Mike. I went to Runner's Retreat to get my first pair of good running shoes. It was amazing how they put you in a pair of shoes that fit your running style and feet and all of a sudden most of my aches and pains went away. Brooks has treated me (and my wife) pretty well up to this point.

I guess I should just go over and try some on since Runners Retreat is practically my neighbor! Thanks for the suggestions!
