alright Storm Damage Run 8.23 mi 01:08 08:15 pace

I don't know why my legs were tired today but they were. They felt like bricks, but I still managed a decent 8:18 pace so I won't complain too much. It was only 70 when I started out, after our severe storms last night, but by the time I got home it had gone up almost 15 degrees. It's going to be 103 again today. I feel really sorry for the 1 million plus that don't have power now. Mine flickered through the storm but thankfully it stayed on.

I'm not going to lie the storm last night scared the crap out of me and I lost count of how many tornadoes I went through as a child (one that came close to killing me and a couple of family members). It terrifying on the 12th floor of a high-rise when you see things start to fly off balcony and pool chairs flying off the 16th floor rooftop pool. I grabbed Liberty and we headed for the only internal, windowless room in my apartment (our den). I might not be a meteorologist but I am a born and raised Midwesterner and the damage on my run this morning looks like tornado damage to me. A lot of damage to trees along the Mt. Vernon Trail. Huge trees sheered off at the top or downed (at lest 3 big ones blocking the trail). One by Regain Airport has a very large section still partially attached to the tree but hanging to the ground and blocking the entire trail and a good 2 feet on each side. Potra-potties that had been sent out for the 4th of July scattered all over the place. NPS really has it's work cut out for it over the next 3 days.

I hope all my other east coast friends made it out okay. Seven reported fatalities last night. Sounds like we are in for another round tonight.

I did some core work 75 reverse bench crunches and some flutter kicks. Also a little nut of arms. To try to keep up with my friend Heather M. I run up the 12 flight of stairs to my apartment :-)

That is horrifying. The storm, not the run. We got a bit of rain and maybe a little thunder, but not much else up in Boston.

Great run! Up here in NJ, the storm woke us up too, and I stood at my front door trying to take pictures of the lightning. Glad you weathered it OK.

Yes, finished watching- play- hammed up version of Shakespeare panorama at V. Tech they said there was a horrendous storm imminent and that we should hurry home or we were welcome to stay with them at the theater until safe....I had walked to campus and hitched a ride w/ a friend ...big tree down near house ...power was off-flashlight working..by 11PM calm-power may have come on about 2-3 AM...ran the Huckleberry Trail this morning thru some new tunnels via downed & draped trees ...

I'm afraid of storms too - and my roommates are both out of town so I was all alone. I almost had a panic attack... BUT it did make for some cooler weather this morning! and many obstacle courses on our runs!

Sounds pretty scary Marlene. I've never experienced anything like that. I'm from London and now live in Portland Oregon.
You ran a great pace today.
