After their stellar performance in the GW Birthday 10K yesterday, I woke up around midnight hacking with my lungs in full revolt. I was coughing so badly that Liberty had taken refuge out in the living room. So I made a deal with them, if they only 5 miles in them today that was okay, 10 miles would be great and the full 15 miles would probably earn them a visit to their favorite cardio-pulmonologist just to make sure they were okay ... and to get them some good drugs if they needed them. Yeah lungs for pulling off the full 15 miles!!! I only really had problems starting around mile 13. I was really surprised at my pace too considering yesterday's effort.
I do have figure out these GI issues before the marathon. Mile 13 is also where that started acting up. Given my training I am pretty sure I can pull off a BQ in 4 weeks, but that all goes out the window if I have GI issues and I end up with a repeat of last October's MCM. I don't know if eating earlier in the day will help clear it all out before the start. Just don't know.
I think I am going to be doing a lot of sleeping again today. We'll see if we get the nasty weather they have been promising for today or not. Then I also have to decided if I really do want to go see my cardio-pulmonory specialist. I already have 1 doctor's visit on the skids this week. I really do like my CP doctor, but he doesn't take any insurance so it usually ends up being a $700 - $1000 visit because, with my history and conditions, he always puts me through all kinds of tests. I haven't really had to see him in years (since I started running in 2006).
I hope everyone had a good run today. I'll catch up after I've taken my shower and eaten my breakfast ... uhm lunch :-)

GREAT run girl! Amazing pace considering your poor lungs and stomach! Do you drink coffee before these runs? And were you eating during the run?

Ellen, I am not a coffee drinker and no I don't eat during the run. I can usuallly feel the trouble coming before I even head out. I tried to eat gluten free to see if that helped and it didn't.

Great workout Marlene. I am concerned about running when the cold moved into your lungs. (or am I reading too much into it?) Super pace.

Stu it happens to me once or twice very year. I've learned to manage it. Believe me if it were exceptionally difficult to breathe, or my lungs started burning, I wouldn't do it or I would stop. Hence why I didn't run 2 days this week when it was really bad. It actually seems to help clear things out a little bit when I run. If it were really cold out (say 20s) I wouldn't do it either.

Great set of miles you got in today, Marlene!! Sorry about the breathing problems. I hope those will work themselves out. GI issues are a bummer. I deal with that often and generally eat very very little before I run. Which probably isn't ideal but...

Wish you well Marlene, in your final weeks. Personally, I don't eat three hours before a run, and even at three hours I avoid protein. With very few exceptions, this has served me well. Hope you figure it out and the weather cooperates :-)
