Lynne, Mt Evans is an awesome race. I did it a few years ago. What I notice during the race for me is that I didn't know how to power walk efficiently the last few miles to the top. Even though I tried to run, I didn't have a run stride. The altitude sucked the oxygen out of my lungs and my run stride couldn't make up for the extreme incline after mile 9 1/2. I was looking around at the other participants and they were all power walking when they couldn't run. Check out power walking before the race.

@bret thank you for the comment! that's a great tip - we did .5-.75 miles running (slow running) with .25 miles walking. i think that's what we'll do for the race too - as long as possible! don't wanna burn all the gas at the beginning!
