SO proud of this race. Ran it perfectly for a shiny new PR (I set the other one four weeks ago) of 23:12 (unofficially). Was hoping for sub 23 and knew I had an outside shot at it, but I'm 100% fine with this race. First time I feel like I know what I am truly capable of with running.

Tim L. and I love these ATC races. So low key, inexpensive and a great way to race regularly.

Snow flurries or sleet or some suck nonsense on my warm-up, and people kept asking me if I was cold in shorts. Um, yeah, no. One hard core ATC-er ran with his shirt off. Dude is nearly 70 and ripped.

Anyway, even though I warmed up for two miles, it still took me about five minutes to find my pace--hit the first mile in 7:35 and felt great. Picked it up at the halfway point and just felt amazing--mile 2 in 7:25, mile 3 in 7:15 (with a bit of an incline toward the end) and all-out sprinted the last quarter. Last 1/10 was in 6:27, and my Garmin shows a fast pace of 5:50--something I've never hit before.

I felt strong the whole time--was never really out of breath, even at the end (miraculous for this asthmatic who used to get out of running in high school gym class), and felt I found a new gear today. I think I just need more speedwork to practice my turnover--I have it in me. I know I'll hit sub 23 soon and have something in the 21:00s in me--I would've never believed this even six months ago.

Not bad for 20 miles a week of running and no real targeted workouts.

Just running and having fun.

Huge congrats to Bonnie G. on her monster PR today--she looked great!

Great race! I always question how people run in wind pants. Wearing more than shorts overheats me quickly.

Negative splits on a 5K = outstanding. Very tough to run that distance that way. The fact it felt effortless gives you a lot to look forward to. Very proud of you for this. You are on top of your game right now, feeling good, and not close to your ceiling yet. Rock on.

Elizabeth, I think anxiety causes my asthma attacks. I felt great for this race, though. Key is a good warm-up and steady pace. You can do it! I no longer fear the 5k!
