Two things: I dressed as a unicorn. The course was too long. That one AWESOME thing and that one NOT awesome thing aside, what fun!
Joined Rochelle today as the 2:10 pace team, and had so much fun. We came across unicorn costumes last night, which is basically the greatest thing that could have ever happen to me in my whole life. Ever. Had such a fun group of people in our pace group, too! All smiles and happies. Nothing can be bad when you're a unicorn.
Now, the boo: we held pace like superstars. We have become pros at pacing the 2:10 group -- which is a 9:56 pace. Ahem, note our average pace above (9:54). It's our THING. We're good at it! When we hit 13.1 miles, per our (and everyone around us) Garmins, it was 2:10. YAY! Except the finish line was still more than a quarter-mile away. BOO. Kind of a bummer, as we obviously came in two minutes late, and runners who were shooting for certain goals missed 'em, too. Le sigh.
My Garmin's usually always off (weaving around the course will add on distance -- I was .2 miles over at Lakefront last weekend), but tacking an additional quarter-mile-plus across 13 miles is a lottttttt. Poopy. Our perfect pace record has been tarnished. BUT IT'S OK BECAUSE WE WERE UNICORNS.
