Tomorrow I am having surgery. No, not for an injury anything along those lines, but rather to fix a scar (and mega scar tissue) I have on my back. When I was 14/15 I had a big cyst removed from my back and it's created plenty havoc over the years because I wound up growing taller after surgery and the scar now sits at the very base of my spine. The real problem is that it pushes against my spine every time I sit down. It makes sitting for more then 20-30 mins pretty uncomfortable and at times, painful. I'm not to one to sit around all too much, but with my job it's sometime something I have to do. It's gotten to the point where I can't drive for more then 2 hours w/o having to stop and walk around to give my back a rest. Thus, I am opting to have scar revision surgery to move the scar to a less taxing location - they're also going to make it better looking, too! It's nothing major, but it'll keep me from running for about 2-3 weeks. I should be able to get back into the gym sooner then that (within a week I am told), but I won't doing as much or lifting as hard when I start back.

So why am I not all freaked out?

1.) While I'll NEVER look forward to NOT running, at least this time I don't have to stop b/c of an injury. After this past summer, this is music to my ears and, from said experience, I have plenty of patience to tide me over ;) I don't start training again until February and way before then, I will have made a full recovery.

2.) Anyone who has followed me through this summer and the injury fest it was a for me, knows even when I HAD to stop running I never stopped doing SOMETHING - boring cardio machines, painfully long trainer sessions, re arranged weight lifting routines (do ease up on the feet!), etc - I did everything I could to stay in shape and keep my conditioning from fading. Thus, this time off will be the first time in probably 1.5 years I am taking a complete break from EVERYTHING.

With all this being said, if you hear crickets over here - this is why. I had planned to have this surgery in December but after I ripped all my races off my schedule, I decided to do it now so that I could get it over with sooner.

No slacking while I'm out for the count - I got my eyes on you dudes!
