    great Raleigh:Easy but warm (78°) 5.29 mi 00:47 08:57 pace

Is tapering allowed before a half marathon? Because I've been doing it--accidentally. My accidental tapering was mostly due to work and trying unsuccessfully to find time to schedule a run. ... read more

    Today's routine was:

    - Run a half mile
    - Do 50 sit-ups
    - Do 50 supermans
    - Repeat the above 2 more times

Then, 8 minutes of Tabata Training of toe taps (20 seconds) and push-ups (10 secon... read more

A good session to practice technique, and I really like the Figure-8-Abs with a medicine ball (like http://www.ehow.com/video_4938631_medicine-ball-core-exercises-figure.html ). I think I like the... read more

    great Healthtrax:HIIT 01:00

I was not as sore going into HIIT today due to some mostly-accidental tapering before my NCRC Half, so this workout didn't seem as intense as most. The routine was repeated three times: (a) ... read more

A lot of run and a third place finish in my age group (out of a field of 14)! Pretty good considering I wasn't really focused on speed and spend more time fiddling with my various LED items a... read more

My heart rate from a recent HIIT session. Can you tell where my half-mile runs were? (I love the running parts compared to the rest.)

How high does your HR reach during runs?

The highest I've seen is 182 at the end of my recent 5K PR. That makes me 220-182 = 38 years old, right? (I wish!) However, I use 175 as my max for zone calculations (because that's what I thought my max was when I first set up my zones in my Garmin) which makes 163 the split point between zone 4 and zone 5, so I try to keep my HR less than that knowing that that is not sustainable for any duration at all.

For longer runs, I try to keep my heart rate below the zone 3/zone 4 split point--151.

A slightly different mix: 50 burpees, 40 (assisted) pull-ups, 30 single-leg squats (on each side), 20 clapping push-ups, and a half-mile run. Then, rinse and repeat. Wow!
