It felt great to be back in the pool, and I didn't struggle as much as I thought I would after not swimming for 6 months. I did stop after each lap (50 yds), but my ears were hurting for some reason. I finally got a pull buoy for the 2nd half of the workout and was able to get in the groove, focus a bit more on my stroke, and swim 100 yds at a time.
I really like the pool at the downtown Y; the water was perfect! The locker rooms are really nice too; I don't even need to bring my own towel! As much as I love the 50m pool at Cady Way, I love that this pools is 1/2 a mile away from my apartment and that I can walk, run or bike there in 4-10 minutes.
Today was all about getting reacquainted with the pool after such a long break, so I took it easy and had no set plan. I may do that for the next few sessions, but I plan to start the 0 to 1 mile program (http://bit.ly/swim0to1mi) soon and wean myself off the pull buoy.
