    3x500 2080 yd 00:47 39:46 pace

So, not as fast swimming on my own as I was circling with the fast ladies. No surprise. 10:36, 10:16, 10:19 (+ w/u, c/d with kicking). For the last half of the final 500 I tried breathing every rig... read more

    Transition run 1.11 mi 00:10:05 09:06 pace

Not sure if it still counts as a transition run if I sat on a train between the first 40 miles of my ride and the last 3.5, but it was the only logistically feasible thing, and it let me run to the... read more

Hot and sunny but I guess that's good training for Vineman. First time cycling anywhere in the East Bay and it was gorgeous — around the Briones Reservoir and back to Orinda BART, then through... read more

    40s 2000 yd 00:49 43:07 pace

Crowded pool and not the best day for lots of 40s. First workout of this week that I really didn't want to do, but it's done!

Edited to add, perhaps "bonked" would have been a better word than "crashed" while talking about driving. No actual crashes happened in the completion of this workout.

    Lifted stuff?!? 00:30

Deadlifts, single-leg deadlifts, bent-over rows, split squats, squats on a bosu, medicine ball twists, um...some other things I don't remember. Trying to focus on core/glutes/other stabilizers.

Silly question - how do you decide what to do with weights and stuff? Have you worked with a trainer, or do you have some sort of plan or something?

Not a silly question! I don't have much of a plan, which is part of why I don't do it very often. I've done some parts of New Rules of Lifting for Women and Female Body Breakthrough in the past, but I always get bored before I finish them! I tend to pull some exercises from those + things I used to do in physical therapy + things I learned from a trainer a while back, but it's kind of a mish-mash at this point!

How many minutes a week of strength training do you do? It's the hardest for me to do so I try to go to classes, but I find myself throwing in the towel if I can't devote 60 straight minutes to a class! LOL

Kimberly - I'm shooting for 30 minutes once a week + one yoga class during triathlon training. Some of the programs I've done have been more like 20-40 minutes 3x/week, but I know I won't keep up a schedule like that right now! The group workouts I do often involve some amount of strength/core, too, but it's nothing big (10-ish minutes of crunches/planks/lunges before a swim or run)
