So what hybrid is worthy of the Hoyt mountain bike trail? I think I want to buy a high-end hybrid (not Mountain Bike).

Tom, my commuter is a Specialized Ariel (men's version is a Crosstrail). Mountain bike geometry, front suspension fork, tires somewhere between road and MTB. They are 700cc x 45. So a wider, slightly knobbier road tire. The road bike 700cc diameter is equivalent to a mountain 29" wheel.

I've ridden it on easy mountain bike trails with no problems. She's great for my commute because I have some horrid pavement. But not a true mountain bike by any means - wouldn't use it on a really fast or technical MTB
