I didn't get out as early as I wanted to, but after yesterday's chafe-fest, I'm not surprised at over sleeping this morning. Also, I ended up having to get up and fix the air conditioner last night when it tripped a circuit (I have an electronics and electrical background. Some times, that's not such a happy thing). Anyway, I got out the door about 8 this morning, and it felt like it was going to be one of those slog runs. Turns out, after the first mile, everything came together and the run went fine. I just had to get my legs loosened up, I guess. Instead of staying on the Fall Line, I dipped into Cooper Creek Park, and hit the fitness trail for a mile or so. It slowed my pace a little (the constant up and down hills and twists and turns), but it felt great to get some different pavement under my feet for bit.
Overall, it was a good, solid run. After this week, I'm feeling a lot better about my goals for November. I think I'm going to be mixing in some trail runs on the Pine Mountain Trail, and use a couple of races for training runs (hey, if you're going to run that far, you might as well get the shirt and medal for it). The mix of trail and racing should keep me balanced through the training cycle and help reduce some of the impact of all the road work I've been doing.
Also, big congrats to Meb Keflezighi. You did great, Meb!

NICE miles --- HOT out there!

Totally agree about using races for training runs- i'm a huge fan of cheap race shirts.

Agreed with Cory-not to mention it helps to break up the monotony of training with some beer. Oh and fun too.

Yes, Meb did great! I just wish we hadn't lost our other 2 due to injury. I understand that chafing issue. The last time it hit me, I actually cried in the shower! Afterward, I scrounged up an old tube of diaper rash cream and it did help. Now I only go out in certain clothes (running skirts with tight shorts under them plus singlet with built-in bra). I would pay BIG $$$ to avoid that *ever* again!!

Gail, I did pay big bucks to solve that problem. Under Armour for the win!
