Felt fine in the AM after yesterday's race but I decided to take this race much slower than the day before. I had my pace chip on this time but still wanted to shoot for a target HR. Aimed for about 165 this time with hopes of finishing before 2:20 overall.
So many friends at the race this AM which was very nice! The weather was not great but that was expected. I was just happy that the rain was light and not heavy and the temps were fairly warm so at least it wasn't freezing cold and raining.
My watch is very, very off for road races but the amount of "off" is just perfect for trails so I am loathe to change the settings. I read 14 miles when this was done. I know part of it was me not running tangents but not that much.
Knowing that my watch was off allowed me to stick better to my HR goals. I nailed a 165 average for the race and my pace per mile was pretty consistent even over the long incline hills. I felt great for the duration of the race and the miles flew past even though the course was kind of boring.
I think I'm getting the hang of this races and training thing and running in such a manner than I can keep a pretty even pace. I have been the queen of the running until I am forced into a walk. That kind of thing probably doesn't serve me well on the trails. I am really going to make an effort to slow down more during the DoubleTop so that I'm not whooped by Mile 30. I think doing races like this helps with learning to slow down even though I feel good and would rather not.
