Man, that was a new one for me. I knew I was starting out under-hydrated and fueled, and expected an impact to the run... but it went surprisingly well, until without much warning I had the overwhelming feeling of just wanting to lie down on the trail and go to sleep! Better to get the experience now instead of at Uwharrie.

Good for you to get most of your miles in, but what an experience to bonk. I never heard it described like that, but I know you will be better prepared for Uwharrie.

Thanks everybody. I wouldn't recommend stretching shoes that long, unless you're a little'un... which I am not. I normally switch mine out at 350 miles, but this year, with an unrented rental property, it was Christmas presents for the boys, or new shoes for dad. As unintentional experiments go, it was interesting: I was definitely starting to get some sore areas (shin splintish kind of stuff) towards the end...
