I think that the elliptical and the bike are great for crosstraining. I usually do about 2-3 miles on the elliptical (if you have a Precor 100i, I recommend it - I like to do level 7 at a pretty fast pace, and then I go for level 16 and use it as a step machine - it's very versatile), and 10-25 minutes on the bike (at levels 10 and 12). I think that weights help, too. I've run faster when I run less throughout the week. And don't forget the all-important ab-work. :-) Hope this helps.

Compromised on this run. Ran 1.5 miles with my wife and then ran the last .5 miles at my 'pushing it' pace of 10:13-10:30/mile pace. Only had time for 2 miles tonight before it got dark.
