Following yesterday's run, I was just hoping for a time better than my previous 5K--42:47 at the Norman Memorial 5K. I realized that goal and probably could have finished in less than forty minutes with proper rest and nutrition. Speaking of which, I didn't eat or drink anything before this run. I usually don't for short training sessions, but I really should have gotten something this morning. I warmed up as normal and did some strides inside near the basketball courts. As for the race, the splits were the opposite of what I wanted. I started too fast and got slower each mile. Splits: 13:01, 13:10, 13:27 and 11:11 (last .18) In general, I started with sore and tired leg muscles and felt a little hip pain in my right hip (ITB?) during the third mile. I cycled for about 10 minutes on a stationary bike to cool-down. The weather was a tad warm for my taste but it's Mississippi so what else can I expect.
Lastly, I've decided to try to finish the Crescent City Classic 10K in 1:20:00 or better.
