Consistent tempo the entire ride. Didn't do Iona beach becuase of the 35-40km headwind. Almost blew me off my bike crossing Arthur Lang. When I split off to see wife and daughter on 37th Ave, the g... read more

tired Hope to Vancouver Cyclebetes ... 150 km 06:30 14.3mph pace
Hard. Hard. Hard. 11% grade hill was just plain rude. Cramped for 60km. I know what my one ride pain threshold is now.

haha wow! That's quite the ride, the calories are off the charts. Nice work.

I was doing some research on your cramping, you should look into some type of electrolyte replacement when on long rides. That coconut water has a good amount, but there are 0 calorie, 0 fat electrolyte replacement tablets or additives to water bottles that are easier to carry on the bike.

Thanks Guys. Bruce - do you know where I might grab those electrolyte tablets? I'd like to test them out next long ride. Will have to ride at least 80-100km to figure out if they work. Anything shorter and I'll just get tired, but I likely won't be in danger of cramping.

You can get them at La Bicicletta, I also think you got a sample of some stuff in your goodie bag from the cyclebetes ride.

good 22 km 00:45 18.2mph pace
Good. Quick ripper. Nothing special about it other than the ascent of that UBC hill which i'm beginning to ride at higher tempo. Gotta get me a better cyclo computer with heart rate monitor and watts.

I hope so, I'm gunning for a 100-130km repeat this Saturday. I've got to test what I've heard about heat, electrolyte imbalances and fluid intake. Kevin - love to hear what you know about electrolyte additives; anything that I can use that will jack up my electrolytes when they begin to plummet. I'd rather not repeat the cramping that I experienced on the 150km ride from Hope to Vancouver. Odd, how much that ride changed my perception of effort.
