Another reason you should be very proud of finishing this marathon, Joli! And, speaking as a dad myself, you have no idea how absolutely proud he is of you! Great job!

Joli, no way is this an epic fail! You finished! You didn't DNF, you didn't sit on the curb and feel sorry for yourself, you didn't turn around at mile 7 and throw up your hands, you pushed and you crossed the finish line. Who cares if you walked it? A very tiny group of people can move in forward motion for that many hours, be proud!!! I'm proud of you!

Oh Joli! You definitely shouldn't see this as a fail. This was just one experience, and you finished! It wasn't what you wanted, but you should still be proud that you did it. We're all proud of you!

Ummmm I haven't attempted to run since last Wednesday's not so good attempt. Was gone for a conference for work and now with all this snow and no more gym membership i'm unfortunately just going to go into it feeling unprepared. Hoping the knee will hold up and my drive and determination will push me through. :) Good luck with the 5k!! You'll do great!

I would say that the rest certainly helped and so if your knee has healed in that time, you'll be good to go! I don't think you'll have any trouble with the distance otherwise. My goal is pretty much same as yours -- get to the finish line. I know you'll be a lot quicker per mile than me, however! Have fun!!!

Rest it well for 2-3 days, see how it is. Unless you really hurt it badly I would think it should be OK within 2-3 days. If not, you'll know and not want to do a marathon anyway. If it feels good and is strong in 2-3-4 days with rest and care, you're good. As my therapist says, however, "No guarantees." No need to panic, Joli...I'm guessing you'll be okay, unless you really damaged it -- that was the treadmill incident? Other DMers more experienced than I should have input for you -- right, DMers?

Thanks guys! I'm going to aim for Monday or Tuesday, at least, before testing it with a 2-3 miler. But traveling for work so may even hold off until Wednesday. Brooke, this is my first full so my only real goal is to finish, but i'd LOVE to do it under 5 hours.

I'm with everyone else here - rest and take it easy. You have your training runs in and now it's just maintenance. When I did my first marathon I had a guy give me some very sage advice: relax and enjoy it, because there will only be one "first" and everything else will be compared to this one. Have fun!

I think lots of rest, ice, ibuprofen for a few days...but I'm certainly not one to advise you. Better to take care of the knee than prolong the injury...Sorry to hear this Joli...do you have a physical therapist you can talk to?

Yeah, I know...but you sure don't want to permanently damage the knee. If total rest for the knee over the next two-three days doesn't improve things, then the issue becomes academic and you're going to want to see your sports doc anyway. If it does clear up, you'll be good to go...but I think the key is to rest the knee a few days...but I'm no doc or therapist.

What does your training plan call for next weekend? How many weeks away is your marathon? That may impact my decision. If you run it tomorrow, you will surely feel very hardcore! And you definitely could run it this afternoon and just be mindful of what you're eating at the party - knowing that you will have a handful of hours hitting the sidewalks. But if you have 3 wks until your marathon, I might postpone it until next weekend but still get a long run of some description in this weekend. Good luck!

I think two hours with 20 five-year-olds is the equivalent of at least 20 miles -- in snow and ice! We love the kids, though. I've never trained for a marathon and so I am totally useless on that topic -- sorry -- but you will do well!

*Anything* before 5am would exhaust me! You may want to consider taking tomorrow & Friday off to rest your knee - ice, elevation, ibuprofen - a couple days rest can do wonders (not that I'm an expert though!).
