      Yep, I've stayed away from doing that, but I figured for this year, what the hell. You've always been successful at not dying doing a marathon after a tri season, so I decided to finally go for it. It won't be a PR, but I want to see if my mantra of "I know I can slog out a long, slow run/walk" can carry me through.

      That's exactly it. I've NEVER truly nailed a marathon in those circumstances, but I've always gotten through it (I guess Grand Rapids 2012 was the closest attempt - that's still my third fastest marathon and we mostly prepped for the olympic tri that year.) Rock the run/walk, enjoy the scenery and company, then enjoy the treat gorgefest after.
